It would appear the law goes into effect on August 26, 2019.
- 36-899.10.B states that unless someone is already formally trained prior to August 26, 2019, they will have to undergo the Dept of Health Services (DHS) training.
- 36-899.10.G states if DHS has the money, they “may” develop & provide screening training; may provide schools the materials to do screenings; may compile statistics etc.
- 36-899-10.H states DHS shall adopt rules (in consult with Dept. of Education) to administer this program.
- 36-899.10.J.4 still defines screening as a comprehensive exam, but says it will be what the rule says it is.
Bottom line for Lions – get SPOT trained by Jeannette before end of August.
Since rulemaking in Arizona is a long process, lasting several weeks and even several months, we have to wait for those to be developed. I believe there is still public comment time to let them know what is thought about the proposed rules, and I will try and keep up on that to let everyone know when they can comment.
