Meet Your DISTRICT GOVERNOR
Lion Rosemarie “Malie” was born and raised in Cebu City, Philippines. She has four brothers and being the only girl, she grew up volunteering alongside her mother, Fely, who was active in various organizations in the community. She finished high school at St. Theresa’s in Cebu City and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce at Assumption College in San Lorenzo, Makati.
She moved to Los Angeles in 1982 and worked in the Public Relations Department for a Pharmaceutical company. In 1990, she married Elpidio (Jong) and moved to Arizona. For the past 25 years, Rosemarie has worked for AWA/US Airways/American Airlines in different areas of the company, mostly in the Human Resources Department.
Lion Rosemarie and Jong have 2 daughters, Marijo and Marifel, both attend Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. Rosemarie is a member of various community and church organizations. She is a cancer survivor, and as a thanksgiving, wants to give the gift of HOPE and SERVICE to others and pass on the spirit of volunteerism to fellow Lions.
Lion Rosemarie joined Phoenix Phil-Am Lions in March 2008, where her daughters are LEO members. Marifel was named 2014 LEO of the Year by Lions Clubs International. Rosemarie has held various positions in the club, and served as President 2015-16. She also served as 21C-Zone 8 Chairperson in 2012-13 and Zone 7 Chairperson in 2013-2015. She led the 1st LEO 2015 State Conference held at Talking Stick Resort. She is a graduate of both the Emerging and Advanced Lions Leadership Institutes. She continuously attends training events, leadership seminars held at the Lions Clubs International Convention, USA/Canada Forum and webinars to grow in Lionism. She has received various awards, including her club’s Lion of the Year and Presidential Awards, District 21C 100% Secretary Award, District 21C Outstanding Zone Chair Award, International Presidential Certificate of Appreciation, LCI Zone Chairperson Excellence Awards and the International Presidential Leadership Medals in recognition for her services to the district.
