Karen Sell



Karen joined the Lions in Olympia, Washington - sponsored by husband Lloyd. She was the first woman president in the 60 year history of the Olympia Host Lions Club and served as President of Excellence, 100% Zone Chair, District Membership Chair, District PR Chair, and on the multiple district Membership Team in Washington State.

After a few years of traveling around the country by RV, the Sells purchased a home in Tucson where Karen is now a member of the Tucson Downtown Lions Club and has served as Region Chair, District Public Relations Chairman, Women’s Membership Development Chairman and as Chair of the 2010 District 21B Convention team.

Karen attended Lions Clubs International Senior Leadership Institute in 2004, completed Facilitator Training, and has received honors including:

  • International Leadership Award
  • International President’s Certificates of Appreciation
  • Melvin Jones Fellow
  • Lion of the Year.

Among her key accomplishments in Lions, Karen lists:

  • Bringing Lions Clubs International film crews for a 4 day local shoot used in the International President's message to Lions worldwide.
  • Helping to found the Northwest Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center
  • Partnering Lions with a major university to develop a hand washing exhibit that is now used nationally.
  • Obtaining a $10,000 grant from the National Institutes of Health for a Lions Club to do low vision work
  • Working with singer/songwriter Karen Taylor-Good of Nashville to develop a CD highlighted by two brand new songs of tribute to the Lions and available to Lions nationally for fundraising.

Outside of Lions, Karen volunteers with her church and enjoys activities with her husband and two sons (one a Lion) and their families in Tucson. Retired from a career in marketing and public relations, she continues to do publicity and marketing for a variety of businesses.
